Tired of Tomato Cages? Try These Ideas!
There are plenty of alternative options you can use to prop up tomato plants other than the typical tomato cage, a round structure that supports the plants in an upright position. For example: bamboo sticks. These are straight long sticks that you can set in the ground. All you need to do is stick the bamboo in the ground around your tomato plant, and tie your tomato plant up with some soft שולי דשא string or twine as it grows. So your plant can lean on the sticks and remain standing.
Alternatively, you could use a chicken wire cage. The chicken wire is a kind of hardy mesh which allows for better airflow and sunlight exposure on your plants. You can mold chicken wire to a circle or square container and position it about your tomato plant. This is to help the plant be supported, but also in the same token flower in the sunlight so that it can grow big and strong. A trellis, similar to a frame with vertical and horizontal pieces, can also be used. The trellis is a brilliant way for your tomato to grow and get its support since your tomato plant will climb up it.
